Impact

As pioneers of the restoration of land, people and the human spirit, Boyd and his family’s philanthropic work is rooted in the interconnectedness of people and nature.

Boyd is a wildlife and literacy activist and, through everything he does, is committed to supporting doing good work in the world, especially on his home continent of Africa. For many decades, Boyd and his family, alongside the Londolozi Ripple Fund, have supported many entrepreneurs, ideas, thought leaders and NGO foundations.

Having been in the work for many many years two organisations hold a very special place for the family; mostly because over the last two decades they have seen, first-hand, the deep-rooted impact these organisations create:  The Good Work Foundation and the Tracker Academy. In 2005, Kate Groch and Boyd built a preschool in the remote town of Philippolis in South Africa.  That school would be the start of the Good Work Foundation (GWF), founded by Kate – an organisation that has since pioneered a unique ecosystem of learning and working in South Africa’s rural communities, specifically in the province of Mpumalanga.

Through creating spaces for world-class, wonder-filled learning, GWF is connecting more young people to the digital economy, and opportunities that can change their lives, their families and their communities forever.

The Tracker Academy was established with the simple mission to preserve indigenous wisdom. The academy trains men and women – from rural and disadvantaged communities neighbouring wildlife areas – in the traditional skills of tracking.

The Tracker Academy is leveraging the enhanced bushcraft and tracking skills of expert trackers to support anti-poaching efforts to counter the devastating effects of rhino poaching in SouthAfrica.

Tracker Academy: Restoring Indigenous Knowledge

The Tracker Academy was established with the simple mission to preserve indigenous wisdom. The academy trains men and women – from rural and disadvantaged communities neighbouring wildlife areas – in the traditional skills of tracking. The Tracker Academy works to ensure that these skills still have relevance and contribute meaningfully to modern conservation efforts and eco-tourism.
