This means that as you develop yourself and your ability to find and follow new narratives, you will not only become more interested and interesting but you will also open yourself to interacting with more dynamic and interesting people.
This module is about discovering what is most essential to you. To do this, you will need to follow unexpected pathways, go down deep rabbit holes, dive into the unknown in the relentless pursuit of your own curiosities. Becoming a character is about fully embracing your true authentic self.
Story Hunter Assignment #5: Write to your hero
Think of some of the greatest characters you know – characters in movies, in the world or in your life.
In 500 words, write a letter to one of them. Tell them why you admire them. Be detailed and specific. Speak to their physical attributes, their values, actions and behaviour.
Dear Nelson Mandela
I love your calming presence – and how your use of words and language captures the attention of so many different types of people. I love everything you stand for – peace, unity, humanity. Your resilience has always inspired me. And the fact that you hold no bitterness – and only compassion – in your heart. I am particularly motivated by your deep commitment to justice and equality and the way you treated everybody with the same respect and dignity. I love the way you fiercely advocated for the protection of animals and children – those without a voice in society. I love how you were able to hold people together and always, no matter how bad things seemed, helped people find hope and purpose. I love how you still do that. I wish there were more people like you. The world needs you.
Characters live inside out.
