I was recently interviewed for this unique podcast hosted by Brilliant Miller, who has an incredibly fun, fresh style. He started the School for Good Living to help everyone live more fulfilling and joyful lives. In our discussion we explored my books and some encounters from my time as a tracker, as well as what it means to live a good life. We also talk about what it took to get my books written and my tips for future writers!
Thank you Mark Leruste from The Unconventionalists – and for your words below:
“There’s nothing more healing than finding your gift and sharing it.” – Boyd Varty
Since childhood, Boyd Varty shared his home with lions, leopards, snakes, and elephants and has spent his life in apprenticeship to the wisdom of nature.
Boyd survived a harrowing black mamba encounter, a debilitating bout with malaria, even a vicious crocodile attack, but his biggest challenge was a personal crisis of purpose.
As a university student, he studied psychology and ecology, supplementing his education by learning martial arts in Thailand, hiking through the jungles of the Amazon, and apprenticing to a renowned tracker from the Shangaan tribe deepening his intimate knowledge of the natural world. Boyd grew up speaking the local language and learning the true meaning of coexistence between people and with nature.
Today, Boyd has a psychology degree from the University of South Africa, is a certified Master Life Coach, is the author of two books, a TED speaker and has taught his philosophy of “Tracking your Life” to companies and individuals all over the world.
He has since been featured in the New York Times and NBC.
I can’t wait to read your comments over on social media (@markleruste) and hear what golden nuggets you got out of our powerful conversation.
It’s safe to say that we’ve all suffered one time or another, but oftentimes people remain in the drama-filled stories that they, themselves, have created. I know I have. With this, the suffering doesn’t end… it only replicates. In this episode, Boyd breaks down a few of his own stories of suffering and his discoveries from the untrue stories that he placed atop the kind reality.
The Cure of The Wild with Lion Tracker Boyd Varty | AMP #300
by Aubrey Marcus
Boyd Varty is in the unique position of being both a lion tracker, and a tracker of human psychology. What he learns from nature he can immediately share as a lesson for our own mental, emotional, and spiritual well being. In his latest adventure, he spent 40 days alone in the African bush. He encountered fear in its purest form, and grace in its most divine. He’s also one hell of a story teller!
Boyd Varty is a lion tracker by trade, for a no-hunt safari operation in South Africa. Through his work out there in the bush, tracking the most dangerous animals, as well as his work as a shaman, he has an immense amount of wisdom to share to put you on the track of your life. He’s come face-to-face with lions, been partially eaten by a crocodile, and assisted in healing countless people in medicinal ceremony. Boyd is an undiscovered force for good in this world and he has some great stories and a beautiful message that can help people track their life path.
We’re joined this week by lion tracker and coach, Boyd Varty. Boyd recently published a book called, “The Lion Tracker’s Guide to Life.” We talk about the art of tracking, his recovery from PTSD after several traumatic events (including getting attacked by a crocodile), his shift to doing coaching and his experience of meeting and living with Nelson Mandela as a boy. Our question this week comes from an actor whose work has dried up.

#67 Boyd Varty- Life Lessons From The African Savanna
Boyd Varty had an unconventional upbringing. He grew up on Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa, a place where man and nature strive for balance, where perils exist alongside wonders. Founded more than eighty years ago as a hunting ground, Londolozi was transformed into a nature reserve beginning in 1973 by Varty’s father and uncle, visionaries of the restoration movement.
Varty shares his harrowing tales like an encounter with a black mamba, what it’s like to have a lion lock you in their gaze and run at you full speed and many other exhilarating stories.
This isn’t just a talk about animals and nature, its a story of transformation that inspires a great appreciation for the beauty and order of the natural world. With conviction, hope, and humor, Varty makes a passionate claim for the power of the wild to restore the human spirit.

What if your life were being composed by an aspect of your consciousness that you are not aware of? Is this not what happens when we dream? What if we left moments and symbols in the dream of life to help us wake up to a deeper reality than what meets the eye? These moments might be what you could call synchronicity.
Synchronicity is a deeply meaningful and yet unlikely occurrence in time and space that forces you to wonder what the fabric of life is made of. As a tracker one must first notice a deeper harmony in life and then try and fall into step with that unfolding so your life gives way to life itself.
Take a listen to my 17 minute podcast in which I share with you some of my thoughts on the incredible occurrence of synchronicity…
